Shanghai and Beijing aren’t the only shopping cities in China. In the western region of the vast country, Chengdu’s Jinjiang district is where the young and hip hang out — often in pairs. It’s home to department stores and several other retailers, including the Gap, Zara, Uniqlo and local brands like Li Ning. This summer, the area’s dwellers are beating the heat in a mix of sporty separates, cheery dresses and an occasional parasol to shield them from the sun’s rays.
With a population of almost 30 million, Chongqing is the largest city in western China. Jiefengbei, which centers around a pedestrian mall, is a popular meeting point for young, stylish people to meet and shop at stores like Cartier, Ermenegildo Zegna, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Rolex. Summer streetwear trends include denim shorts, bags in bright hues such as cherry red and lemon yellow and myriad variations of the stripe or bold graphic print.
